YWLAP Garden Volunteer

Gardopia Gardens is a nonprofit organization that sprouted in 2015 to address health disparities in San Antonio. The mission of Gardopia Gardens is to grow healthy communities through garden-based learning and gardening with students at their schools. We teach students how to become more sustainable by growing their own food and living healthy.

Volunteers are needed to help maintain these school gardens like Young Womens Leadership Academy. Young Women's Leadership Academy Primary is located at 401 Berkshire, San Antonio, TX 78210 and is a school with a large farm, a courtyard Bluejay's garden with chickens, a greenhouse, aquaponics, and a microgreens farm. YWLAP volunteer days usually occur on Tuesdays from 9am-12pm and Wednesdays 12pm-3pm weekly in addition to every first Saturday of the month 9am-12pm. Volunteers with be tasked in helping in the crop fields, watering, mulching, composting, weeding, and other basic gardening tasks. All volunteers must be able to pass a background check and have a valid driver's license before helping at any of the Gardopia Garden's school gardens.

Volunteers should bring water, sun/insect protection, their ID, and garden gloves. Most schools will have the tools needed to get the garden work completed. Volunteers can contact Sherry Lim at sherrylim@gardopiagardens.org to coordinate their instructions when arriving to the school.

Parking for Young Women's Leadership Academy Primary is either street parking or faculty lot parking on the side of the building. Please do not park where school busses go in and out.

Thank you for volunteering for this great cause and all are welcome!
