Call for Volunteers (with language skills) for the Migrant Resource Center

Open Opportunity

About

Dear Friends:

There is a call for volunteer interpreters to help at the Migrant Resource Center opened July 7, 2022 at a new location on 7000 San Pedro Avenue. (see attached flyer)
For questions about volunteering please reach out to Ms. Jenny Garcia at (Jenny.Garcia@sanantonio.gov) or 210.207.8256.

The center is staffed by City of San Antonio employees and volunteers from Catholic Charities of San Antonio and the San Antonio Food Bank.

The MRC is looking for volunteer interpreters, with advanced fluency Spanish speakers highly desirable. The countries with the most migrant arrivals are:
Venezuela,
Cuba,
Nicaragua,
Colombia and
Honduras.

There are some migrant arrivals who speak Portuguese and French as well so volunteers are welcome for those languages as well.

Though not a requirement, volunteers with a strong geographical knowledge of the San Antonio area and various transportation methods (Airport, Greyhound, etc.) would be ideal. The interpretation and translation needs are mostly for wayfinding and travel navigation assistance.

Volunteers need to complete the form found in the link below, if interested in volunteering at the Migrant Resource Center on behalf of the San Antonio Food Bank.

A background check is REQUIRED in order to volunteer at the Migrant Resource Center. The SA Food Bank will cover the cost of the background check. Upon completion of this form, the SA Food Bank will be contacting volunteers who register with instructions on how to process their background check.

For more information regarding volunteering, please reach out to Ms. Jenny Garcia (Jenny.Garcia@sanantonio.gov) or 210.207.8256/ 830.391.2755.
