Kids in a New Groove Seeks Volunteer Music Mentors

Open Opportunity

About

Georgetown Area Musicians! Here's a way you can help, even during the pandemic. Know an instrument and want to help out a kid in foster care? Kids In A New Groove is currently seeking volunteer music mentors for students in Georgetown and its surrounding areas! Our students need consistency, genuine positivity and the joy of learning music now more than ever!

Common Questions:
  • Time commitment required? A minimum of 30 minutes a week for a full year.
  • Financial commitment required? None!  We will provide lesson materials, rewards and a beginner instrument for your student to learn on. We've got a budget for all of it!
  • What instrument can I teach?  Any!  We've got students interested in learning everything from the trombone to the violin to piano/vocals and everything in between.
  • What teaching experience do I need?  None!  Because it's a music mentorship program, musical growth in our students is always great, but that mentorship connection for youth in foster care is just as important if not moreso.  Music is the vehicle we use to establish that connection.
  • Age Restriction?  Kids In a New Groove Music Mentors must be 18 or older.
  • Virtual Opportunity?  We've been doing lessons all virtually since March 13, 2020.   Lessons CAN be done in person if all parties involved agree to it and sign a waiver.
